Cedar Boat Trip

Cedar recently went on a Boat Trip. After departing from the Barbican, we ventured around the Plymouth Sound, up the Tamar and looked at the Naval ships and Submarines at the Dockyards. It was a great opportunity to learn more about our great city.

At various times during the day, we sketched different landmarks using the techniques that we had been taught in class. We were also given a challenge: we had maps, and without too much help from the adults, we had to find our way to a specific point. This required us to use teamwork and geographical skills in order to be successful.

Missing angles

All this week, the children have been finding the missing angles of a variety of different shapes. As a challenge, we gave the children a task which consolidated their learning. We taped lines on the tables which gave us different angles. Using their prior learning, the children then had to work out the size of the missing angles. Whilst the children enjoyed the difficulty of the task, they really liked the opportunity to write on the tables!

Sketching

In preparation for our trip to the city centre, the children have been learning different sketching techniques. We looked at smudging, cross-hatching and stippling. The children enjoyed trying different ways to draw, even if it took many attempts to get it right. As you can see below, the children eventually got the hang of it and produced some great pieces!
